vector art

In high school I was first introduced to vector art, but of course it was a very simplified version of it. I have never seen work quite like this and knowing that it is vector art is extremely interesting. This is something I really want to look into doing on my own. It seems very complicated but the end result is really amazing... Now I'm on the hunt for tutorials on how to make this sort of art!

more street art

I think that this artist really makes a new spin on street art. Her style is very different than you would usually see in a street of building. I think that this makes it that more interesting. Some of the pictures she uses could be seen as surreal and almost peaceful, yet they are put into very dirty and random spaces.

posters

I found some really cool examples of "gig posters" for various posters. I think part of the reason I like the posters so much is also because I love a lot of the bands featured. I think they all kind of connect to the band and what it's all about. They vary from simple to extremely detailed and all seem to fit to the theme of the band featured.

sophomore review

This year’s sophomore review was defiantly a new experience for me because I was actually a part of it. Usually when attending art events I’m part of the audience, and only have an outsider’s view. For this review, I actually got to hear people’s opinions about my own work. Another rally interesting aspect of the review was that a lot of the other student that were being reviewed have been in various classes with me since the beginning if last year. Being in classes with the, you were able to identify their work immediately, and see how much they have grown since their freshman year. Seeing them taking their own personal styles and apply it to their other classes is really interesting to see, and it almost turns into you being able to even identify them with their new work, based only on their particular styles. Knowing many of the students in the review, you could also know a lot of the background on some of the pieces they have done. For example, knowing that someone was from the city, or knowing that they come from a very small town. All of this could sometimes be seen in their various pieces. One of the most interesting aspects of the day was hearing people’s opinions about my own work. I think everyone’s comments were extremely helpful. One comment in particular was about my lack of color in my work, which is extremely true. Of course I have some pieces that I could have include with color, but I seemed to have been drawn with much more of my monochromatic pieces. Comments such as these have really inspired me to grown as an artist and try and explore new things.

pen

I think that these drawings are really interesting because the artist is able to create this large scale complicated drawings but he uses a very simple tool. Pens could be thought of as a tool for doodling, and sketching, but he uses this simple tool to make these beautiful pieces with really humanistic compositions.

light paintings

I have no idea how the artist did this. When I see artwork like this I automatically assume part of the process of making it has been digital. However, it looks as though this artist only uses his camera. I wish I knew how the artist did this because the overall effect is really beautiful.

more logos

I really like to look at logos and see what designers have come up with. I think that even though a logo is so simple, it is very hard to come up with one that makes sense and really shows the purpose of the entire company in it. This website shows a couple of really cool designs like the one I have below.

of course..

After I finished the last project I found a website that actually helps you find a font if you need to match it. One of the hard parts of the last project I did was trying to match my new information with the correct font. Wish I had this before..

practice

A family friend went to my mom and asked if I could help her out with a flyer for her clothing boutique... she wanted include more text about a sale they were having... I decided I would just extend the entire top of the flyer and add the text there because there was nowhere else to put it. I used the clone stamp to continue the wood pattern to the top... I think overall it came out well and matches the rest of the picture...

brushless

Another thing that I have always struggled with is painting but this technique is extremely interesting. The artist actually doesn't use brushes. She uses squirt bottles and actually just tries to maneuver the paint by moving the canvas around. The end result is really amazing...

combination of mediums

These photographs are really amazing. It was one of those things where I could not figure out how the artist did what he/she did. After reading, I saw it was actually a combination of artists. It looks as though they had a sculptor make the piece with paper, then an illustrator added the photo in the background and out and image onto the sculpture. The combination turned out amazing and it looks and if they were actually out shooting these pieces of paper.

skateboard sculpture

Great idea to create some sculpture out of something you would expect. These are pieces made from the scraps of old skateboards. I don't work three dimensionally very often so I honestly don't have much interest in sculpture but I found these pieces very interesting and I think it could call for a wide variety of viewers.

sketch ideas

This artist is really cool because he does a good job of rendering the parts of the face but he juxtaposes them really creatively. I think I should look into something like this because I don't find a lot of interest in sketching people but this could make it more fun.

photo possibilities...

I really like what the artist did here. He was able to combine some amazing photographs and digitally combine them to make them look like one. I think it creates a lot of interest for the viewer, and at first I did not like how I couldn't see the entire picture on the website without scrolling up and down, but then I realized I found myself excited as I continued look because I knew something interesting would be at the bottom but I could not guess what else he would be combining the top with.

close up

This is amazing... someone actually was able to get some really great shots of eyes up- close. I never thought about what the color in your eye must look like but I never would have guessed this. These pictures ended up looking amazing and the eyes themselves provided the composition and coloring. Really interesting stuff...

double exposure

These portraits are really interesting... the artists used two different images to create one cohesive piece. I believe he did this only in the photo studio but I think that this is a great option for a digital portrait. Combining two different elements into one creates interest and I think it could be really successful using photoshop.

project imagination

I found this article about a project that Ron Howard and his daughter are working on. They asked people to submit photos that they would both use and use for inspiration in their new film, "When you Find Me."I think this whole idea of a huge collaboration is extremely interesting. Now when people go to see the movie, there could be thousands of people knowing that they contributed to the creation of a good film.

creative block

Sometimes I find myself thinking that I have no creative juice left in me. I think that there's no way for me to come up with an idea for a new project. The thing is, I set myself up for this. This following link is just something random I found... but I want to print it out, blow it up, and hang it on my wall. It has great advice on how to, pretty much, not let yourself top being creative. I think the things on the list are great ideas... and maybe I should do a few.

amazing...

I was really impressed by this work.... At first I just looked at the pictures but by the end I was so interested in how he made the images I had to read the question and answer sections. He did basically all of this on photoshop and used a tablet. I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO DO THIS. Absolutely amazing.

Art Event #1

Hartwick College invites many people to come in and talk about their professional careers. In particular, the art department invites many artists to come and lecture about the different work that they have done. Recently, someone who is quite famous in the art world came to talk about her work. She was a part of the famous group of artists called the Guerrilla Girls.
She explained that in the 80’s she met up with a group of other female artists in New York City. They all had one idea in mind, to let the world know how women were being discriminated against in the art world. After having several meetings over what artwork they wanted to produce, they decided to make their own posters and put them up throughout the city. They came up with various situations, even going as far as calling out particular museums and galleries that had little to no female artists featured. This was the main reason why they wanted to remain anonymous, they did not want these posters to be seen as a way to advance their careers and most of all, did not want to be sued for what the posters said. Whenever they went out at night to put up their posters, they always wore gorilla masks. To make the money to produce the posters they made, they went around and lectured to different colleges, always wearing the masks.
After explaining her years as a Guerrilla Girl she went on to show us how she went on to do her own personal work. She ended up using a lot of the ideas and problems that she had faced with the Guerrilla Girls and used them in her artwork. Her pieces include feminist ideas, ideas concerning religion, and other various topics. She used many different mediums, such as fabrics, paintings and various types of sculpture. One piece even featured hats and hairpieces.
One of my favorite pieces was, “The advantages of being a Woman Artist.” The poster was one of the simplest, only in black and white, and had the sarcastic humor that seemed to be present in many of the posters that they made.
Seeing a woman such as this become so successful in the art world, especially during the time she was looking for jobs, really is inspiring. Her and her group of friends decided that they all believed they could change the statistic of women artists, and they are part of the reason why there are so many artists today.  Watching someone like this should really push people to fight for what they believe for, no matter how they have to do it.

logo design

logo design is something I have always been interested in and have tried to do myself. I think these are great examples of a good simple design but having a lot more behind it than when you first look at it.

finals

I ended up using the tree as the connecting factor in the pieces, then created life, love, and happiness.

second project..

I find this project 2 very difficult, and I think that is because the idea behind it is so broad. I'm having a hard time finding out which words that I want to use, but I found an image of a tree that I think I want to be consistent in each picture..

grafitti

Ever since seeing the movie "exit through the gift shop" I have found graffiti art extremely interesting and inspiring. There is always a certain style that people think about when they think about graffiti... but i bet they didn't picture this....

wearable art...

One of my favorite forms of art... art you can wear. I think that the pieces shown in the slide show are not only beautiful to wear, but aesthetically pleasing to the eye as a form of art. I have a lot of respect for these designers because they are trying to please a very large group of people. They need to come up up with a design that will catch peoples eyes and make them want to not only look at, but experience the art as well...

morphing project..

After do a lot of research I decided what I want to do for my project. In stead of morphing together two people I wanted to manipulate an image so that it looks like an avatar. I chose to morph...

I think I will have to steals some ears but I'm going to try and manipulate the skin, nose and eyes especially.

tshirts

I found a really great website with an artist's designs for various t-shirts. I found his work to be very interesting even though it can be simplistic at times. I like this sort of illustration and I defiantly want to try out this sort of design one day.

painting...

So I was asked to do a painting for my mom's friend's hair salon... she wanted it to say "The Wash House"
First I played around with the idea in photoshop....

So I got the materials and here's the final painting...

I think doing small jobs such as these gives me a lot of confidence and pushed me to keep getting better.

I think this is a great example of coming up with an idea and putting it out into the public to see peoples reactions.. I love this and I personally think this is an idea that all stores should take into consideration...

great find..

So I found this website where you can search through tons of icons... you just search what you want in a search engine that looks a lot like google. They have some famous ones like:

Or some random ones..
